Private dictation for your Mac. Your words are inserted where you’re typing, while the audio and text stay on your Mac.
For Apple Silicon Macs · No account · No telemetry

Let go. Keep working.
NVIDIA Parakeet recognises your speech entirely on your Mac. Cardew inserts the text at the cursor in the app you’re using.
What you say stays yours.
Dictation is personal. Cardew is built so that we don’t receive it.
On-device recognition
NVIDIA Parakeet runs on your Mac. Your audio and the text it produces never leave your Mac for transcription. Nothing is sent to a cloud speech service.
No account or telemetry
No Cardew account, advertising profile, usage analytics or crash reporting. Buying gives you a licence key, not another login to manage.
A few necessary connections
Licence activation, occasional licence validation and update checks are separate from dictation. They never include your recordings or transcribed text. The privacy notice lists exactly what they send.

Try it properly first
Cardew’s trial covers 14 days of actual use, not simply 14 days from installation. Every feature is included and no card is needed.
After those 14 days, Cardew keeps working in a permanent free mode with recordings capped at 30 seconds. A licence removes that cap. Your settings are never deleted.

The signed and notarised Cardew download will be available here at launch, with its version, file size and checksum.
Every feature is included for 14 days of actual use, with no card needed. After the trial, Cardew keeps working in permanent free mode with recordings capped at 30 seconds.

Questions, answered plainly.
Does anything I dictate leave my Mac?
No. Speech recognition runs on your Mac. Neither your audio nor the text it produces is sent to us or to a transcription service. Licence and update connections don’t contain dictated content.
Which Macs does Cardew need?
A Mac with Apple silicon: M1 or later. Intel Macs aren’t supported.
Which apps can I dictate into?
Cardew inserts text at the cursor in the app you’re using. App compatibility can vary, so use the full-featured trial with your own apps before buying.
What permissions does it need?
Microphone access to hear you and Accessibility access to insert text where you’re typing. You can revoke either in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
How does the 14-day trial work?
It counts 14 days on which you actually use Cardew, rather than ending a fortnight after installation. All features are available and you don’t need to provide payment details.
What happens when the trial ends?
Cardew moves to a permanent free mode with recordings limited to 30 seconds. It does not stop working or delete your settings. Buy a licence to remove the recording limit.
Can I use my licence on more than one Mac?
Yes. One licence covers up to 3 Macs that you own or personally use. Activation needs an internet connection once; after that, Cardew can work offline.
Are updates included?
Yes, every 1.x update is included, whether you buy at the launch price or the standard price. A future 2.0 may be a paid upgrade; that would be made clear before you chose to buy it.
Who processes the purchase?
Stripe, through Link, sells and processes Cardew as reseller and merchant of record. Stripe collects payment details and issues your receipt. We never see your full card number.
What if it isn’t right for me?
Ask for a refund within 30 days, with no questions asked. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not limited by that window. See the refund policy.
Is there a Windows version?
Not yet. Cardew is Mac-first, with Windows planned. We’d rather do one platform properly first.
How do I get help?
Email support@greythornstudioworks.com. Tell us what happened, your Mac model and macOS version, but please don’t include private recordings or dictated text.
Built on open work.
Thank you to the people whose models and software make private, on-device dictation possible.
